There is so much that the gps did for us during our trip, and it would take me quite a while to give you all the pro’s of this little piece of work, but lets just things such as a washroom break were easy – simply touching the screen and pulling up lists of all the upcoming restaurants/gas stations/stores etc… would list them all in order of how close we were to them, and another tap and a second color route would appear on screen for us to get there as fast as possible for the emergency potty breaks

I bought this top of the line unit with after hearing some rave nuvi 680 comments and personal garmin gps reviews from colleagues, I work with a group of people to program global positioning system applications, so needless to say I have my fair share of experience to draw upon when I say this is the best their is out there right now. It is near perfect in many ways to the way I design and test applications of tracking, with my only upset being that it takes a tad bit longer (1-2 seconds) to recalculate routes when you stray from them as compared to some units I have been in contact with.

• The algorithms and programs of the tracking system work better then 99% of stuff i’ve seen, with the course estimation, timings, positions and recourse features being incredibly accurate when compared to similar priced gps systems meant for personalized usage.
• Hands free calling was especially great for me, recieving calls and becoming distracted and hazardous was a problem my girlfriend always gavbe me hell about.
• The interface is very clean, simple, navigatable and intuitive with me not yet having to use any sore of manuals or help guides to locate all the dozens of potential tools the garmin gps systems bring to the table, and the added and brand new tools of the nuvi 680 generation type of systems.

The additions of data added into your nuvi in real time and real world accuracy utilizing MSN direct service is a big plus over a street pilot system I previously owned, and to spare the readers attention span and my keyboard longevity, I won’t even began to write out all my positive feelings and experiences the added data can bring to the navigation experience.

All and all this was coming highly recommended and now I total see why, it simply rocks, and with the lowest prices on the nuvi 680 I’ve seen dropping from $1000+ to 600-800 lately, it is incredibly affordable and worthwhile for what you get, and expect to see many many new people discovering the true versatility, function and pure joy the 680 nuvi series from garmin brings to those whom come in contact with it

Absolutely in love with this thing, although at first I did get a defective unit when I bought from ebay, and I was totally unimpressed and thought about leaving a nasty long nuvi 680 feedback for all the world to feel my frustration, I quickly calmed down when I phoned support and realized that I had probably gotten played from the third party seller, and I decided to give it another chance

I’m glad I didn’t rush to conclusions when the jerk at ebay sold me a bad garmin 680 gps system not in original package or anything, and that I did go out and buy from amazon online where I received it in a couple of days to really see what kind of fun and how powerful this expensive gps travel companion was really worth

It is incredibly useful and once you get hooked on using it, not having it their beside you is almost depressing as driving is dull and a whole lot ‘less’ of an experience

There were a couple of things I didn’t like 100% like the mount it comes with, as it is illegal here to have it directly on your windshield and I did have to shop around for a long time to find the right mount for my garmin nuvi 680 that would allow me to not have to put it on the windshield. I also feel that for just the average person, the garmin nuvi 660 is the more cost effective product, if you are just staying in your general area as I do, the completely MASSIVE AND COLLECTIVE data that the msn-direct services bring aren’t really put to use, however I’m sure if I do plan on going anywhere soon outside my general city area that I already know 100%, I will thank myself for buying the (relatively cheaply priced) nuvi 680 for all the extra information and up to date conditions and factors it brings to your screen.

Besides that, I am now the biggest garmin gps fan on earth I think! I bought the nuvi 680 after having owned the 660, I would say that I didn’t expect much of a difference, but my wife had lots of use when she took my vehicle with the garmin nuvi 660 in it, and I wanted to get 2 so we both could have one.

After shopping around online a bit, I ultimately decided to order the garmin nuvi 680 personal GPS after reading some nuvi 680 reviews that stated the benefits of having traffic data utilized by MSN direct rather then the system the other models from garmin with the feature included utilized.

There isn’t an incredible difference, however, I found myself using the added features quite often now after having owned it for a while and definitely find it worthy of the pretty low price tag on the garmin 680 when compared to similar brands and models at this range of the market.

If you are comparing this to the ultra popular nuvi 350 and 660 units, I would say any one of the 3 would probably satisfy the less then heavy traveler, but the added value will surely not have you feeling like the slight price increase of the garmin nuvi 680 was wasted, and will probably save you much time, money and frustration as you begin to utilize the additional features making it a very worthwhile upgrade to the already owners or first time buyers.
